Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently training with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six finals, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an better service.

He came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent defended 4 initial break points in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he secured the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
