Cars in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.

The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior representative said the incident rendered him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
